A window blind is a type of window covering. There are several different sorts of window blinds which use a variety of control systems. A typical window blind is composed of several long flat or vertical slats of various kinds of tough material, such as wood, plastic or metal which are held together by wires that run through the blind slats. Window blinds could be maneuvered with either a manual or remote control by rotating them by an open position, with slats spaced out, to a closed position where slats float and block out the majority of the light. Additionally, there are several kinds of window coverings, called colors, that use a single piece of soft cloth rather than slats.
The period window blinds may also be used to describe window coverings generically--within this context window blinds include virtually every type of window covering, i.e. shutters, roller blinds, cellular shades (also called honeycomb colors), wood blinds (also called two inch horizontals), Roman blinds and regular vertical and horizontal blinds (also called Venetians). occasionally called shades or blinds.|}
