A window blind is a type of window covering. There are several different sorts of window blinds that use a variety of control systems. A typical window blind is composed of several long flat or vertical slats of various types of tough material, including wood, metal or plastic that are held together by cords that run through the blind slats. Window blinds could be maneuvered with a manual or remote control by rotating them by an open place, with slats spaced outside, to a closed place where slats float and block out the majority of the light. There are also several types of window coverings, called shades, that use one piece of soft material rather than pliers.
The period window blinds can also be used to spell out window coverings generically--in this circumstance window blinds include almost every type of window covering, i.e. shutters, roller blinds, cellular shades (also called honeycomb shades), wood blinds (also called two inch horizontals), Roman blinds and regular vertical and horizontal blinds (also called Venetians). In the United Kingdom, awnings are sometimes called shades or blinds.|}
