A window blind is a kind of window covering. There are many distinct sorts of window blinds that use a variety of control systems. A typical window blind is made up of several long horizontal or vertical slats of different kinds of hard material, including wood, plastic or metal that are held together by cords that run through the blind slats. Window blinds could be maneuvered with a manual or remote control by rotating them by an open place, together with slats spaced out, to a closed place where slats overlap and block out the majority of the light. Additionally, there are several kinds of window coverings, called shades, that use one piece of soft material rather than slats.
The term window blinds can also be used to spell out window coverings generically--in this context window blinds include almost every kind of window covering, i.e. shutters, roller blinds, cellular shades (also called honeycomb shades), wood blinds (also called two inch horizontals), Roman blinds and regular vertical and horizontal blinds (also called Venetians). In the United Kingdom, awnings are sometimes called blinds or shades.|}
