A window blind is a type of window covering. There are several distinct kinds of window blinds which use a variety of control systems. A typical window blind is composed of several long horizontal or vertical slats of different kinds of tough material, such as wood, metal or plastic which are held together by cords that run through the blind slats. Window blinds can be maneuvered with a manual or remote control by rotating them by an open place, together with slats spaced out, to a closed place where slats float and block most of the light. Additionally, there are several kinds of window coverings, called shades, that use one piece of soft material instead of pliers.
The period window blinds may also be used to spell out window coverings generically--within this context window blinds include almost every type of window covering, i.e. shutters, roller blinds, cellular shades (also called honeycomb shades), wood blinds (also called two inch horizontals), Roman blinds and regular vertical and horizontal blinds (also called Venetians). occasionally called shades or blinds.|}
