A window blind is a type of window covering. There are many different sorts of window blinds that use a variety of management systems. A normal window blind is made up of several long horizontal or vertical slats of various kinds of hard material, including wood, metal or plastic that are held together by wires that run through the blind slats. Window blinds can be maneuvered with a manual or remote control by rotating them from an open place, with slats spaced out, to a closed place where slats float and block out the majority of the light. Additionally, there are several kinds of window coverings, known as colors, that use one piece of soft cloth instead of slats.
The term window blinds may also be used to spell out window coverings generically--within this context window blinds include virtually every type of window covering, i.e. shutters, roller blinds, cellular shades (also known as honeycomb colors), wood blinds (also known as 2 inch horizontals), Roman blinds and regular vertical and horizontal blinds (also known as Venetians). In the United Kingdom, awnings are sometimes called shades or blinds.|}
