A window blind is a type of window covering. There are many distinct kinds of window blinds that use a number of control systems. A typical window blind is composed of several long horizontal or vertical slats of different kinds of tough material, such as wood, metal or plastic that are held together by wires that run through the blind slats. Window blinds could be maneuvered with a manual or remote control by rotating them by an open place, with slats spaced outside, to a closed place where slats float and block out most of the light. Additionally, there are several kinds of window coverings, called shades, that use one piece of soft cloth rather than slats.
The period window blinds may also be used to spell out window coverings generically--within this circumstance window blinds include virtually every type of window covering, i.e. shutters, roller blinds, cellular shades (also called honeycomb shades), wood blinds (also called two inch horizontals), Roman blinds and standard vertical and horizontal blinds (also called Venetians). occasionally called shades or blinds.|}
