A window blind is a type of window covering. There are several different sorts of window blinds that use a variety of management systems. A normal window blind is composed of a number of long flat or vertical slats of different types of tough material, such as wood, plastic or metal that are held together by cords that run through the blind slats. Window blinds can be maneuvered with a manual or remote control by rotating them by an open place, together with slats spaced out, to a closed place where slats float and block most of the light. There are also a number of types of window coverings, called colors, that use a single piece of soft cloth instead of slats.
The period window blinds can also be used to describe window coverings generically--within this context window blinds include virtually every type of window covering, i.e. shutters, roller blinds, cellular shades (also called honeycomb colors), wood blinds (also called two inch horizontals), Roman blinds and regular vertical and horizontal blinds (also called Venetians). In the United Kingdom, awnings are sometimes called shades or blinds.|}
